June 12, 2012 was unofficially proclaimed the day to laud our six recent retirees, and boy did we celebrate! The festivities started off with a Mass in their honor followed by a specially prepared luncheon for the retirees and their family members.
The afternoon really got going with a fun program that all Residents, Staff, and Volunteers were invited to attend. The program was titled, “Memories, Precious Memories,” in honor of our recent retirees and all the fond memories we share.
The play featured some of our favorite celebrities, including Oprah (Employee Brenda Hooker) and her producer, Cheri (Volunteer Mary Freundt). They threw the party and all sorts of party guests showed up. Resident Evelyn Derowski and Volunteer Joy LaTaglia-Oliver danced their way to the stage. Employees Tuyet Phan and Phuong Nguyen escorted Resident Tuyen Trinh to the party dressed in their traditional Vietnamese clothing. Resident Natalie Nase and Volunteer Sylvia Wayne got down to the twist and had the whole auditorium on their feet twisting with them. Resident Roscoe Bray proved he still has some impressive dance moves with his daughter Latrice by his side. The last pair to come to the party was Residents Roland Davis and Sylvia Mickens dressed up as Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole, respectively.
Following all the hilarious jokes, sweet sentiments, and fun dancing came special messages to each of the six Retirees. The afternoon concluded with more dancing, gifts, and cake. We will all miss our special friends but are sure they will come back to visit often, and we are very thankful for the many years we were able to share with them. God Bless!
