America’s 239th Birthday
Residents rang in this year’s Independence Day with a group of very special guests—Marine Corp League Honor Guards James Slay, Leonard Smith, and Spike Williamson. The festivities began with the singing of “God Bless America” and the procession of Resident veterans Tom Cronin, Willie Phillips and Lucien Dupriez, accompanied by volunteers Malcolm Slovic and Randy Bordelon. Bugler Spike Williamson played a lovely rendition of “To the Colors” during the flag raising ceremony which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, led by resident Kyle Henderson. Mother Marie Edward led everyone in a prayer for veterans both living and dead. Next, residents and visitors sang our National Anthem – “The Star Spangled Banner,” with Father Ken Wood offering closing remarks including sharing how his family’s history included participation in the history of America’s trials and tribulations in both peace and war times. Benediction was led by resident, Dr. Willie Phillip.
