Hitchin’ a ride

For a little kid, what’s better than pushing the grocery cart really fast and then hopping on the back to speed wildly down the aisles? Why, jumping in the basket of an LSP Resident’s power scooter and zooming through the halls, of course! Unlike the mother of the grocery-store-cart-coasters, instead of watching with dismay as her child crashes into a precariously balanced display of soup cans and earns her disapproving looks from store employees, dedicated volunteer Sarah Mack, the mother of this little cutie, watched with a smile almost as big as her daughter and Resident Charlie Austin’s as they rolled their way through the halls. Sarah has been bringing her little one along with her on her weekly visits to the home to volunteer, and Residents adore spending time with both mom and daughter. Our fantastic volunteers know the recipe for happiness is just a little bit of time, smiles, kindness, and laughter, and they mix up their special brand of joy for our Residents with every visit.

If you are interested in being a part of our team of volunteers, contact Sister Colette at volrichmond@littlesistersofthepoor.org or stop by our home. You might just discover that the blessings you bring to our Residents come back to you twofold—you never know what stories you’ll hear, what laughs you’ll have, or how your life will be touched in just a short time here. It is because of the generosity of donors and volunteers like Sarah (and you!) that our home is able to continue to be the special haven that it is for our many wonderful Residents, and we thank you for being a part of our ‘family!’
